National Slate Association
The National Slate Association (NSA) was first established in 1922 by slate quarriers with the goal to educate roofing professionals and architects. The Slate Roofs manual was published in 1926 as a resource for slate roofing specifications, installation standards, sources of slate colors, repair, and maintenance information. Following the Great Depression, the NSA became inactive.
In 2002, a group of slate producers, architects, roofing contractors, met to revitalize the National Slate Association. In 2006 a Manual Committee was selected to update the installation manual and in 2010 published Slate Roofs Design and Installation Manual.
North Country Slate has been involved and active with the NSA since 2002. Dave Large served as Vice President of the National Slate Association and was one of the co-authors of the association’s Slate Roofs Design and Installation Manual. Following in his Dad’s footsteps, Chris Large is involved as a NSA Board Member.
In 2014, North Country Slate hosted the National Slate Association’s 2014 Conference with a tour of the Glendyne quarry which is the producer of the North Country Unfading Black.
